SaaS sales compensation simplified, sort of

The final question to our panel at last month's Rackspace conference was about how to structure sales compensation plans in SaaS companies.  Our answers at the time were basically of the "Depends..." variety, eg long-winded and not very helpful.  

I had intended to do some more research on this topic and blog it later, but that is unnecessary when a true SaaS Scientist like Joel York has done it comprehensively right here: SaaS Sales Compensation Made Easy. 

The most important message: always use a fixed measure of recurring revenue (eg ARR or MRR) as the target for commission, NOT bookings.
